6860. Secret. Defence Security Officer, Hong Kong has telegraphed to M.I.5 that both Governor and G.0.C. are perturbed by number of Indian desertions from various units in Hong Kong. Since last January there have been two desertions from 6th Rajputana Rifles, one from Hong Kong Police, one Indian watchman from H.M. Dockyard, one from Kumaon Rifles and recently two from Hong Kong- Singapore Artillery, latter followed soon after loss of secret papers from 1st Pack Battery. All these deserters went to Canton, whence only one, the policeman, has been traced and he was in possession of anti-British literature, apparently emanating from Shanghai.

2. It is suspected that some unidentified organisation is subverting Indians in Hong Kong and Governor is anxious for an Indian Police Officer to be placed at his disposal in near

future/
